How to verify an Oregon inspector
The CCB runs two separate searches because it issues two separate things. An inspector can pass one check and fail the other.
Two searches, two numbers
The CCB's own consumer notice tells you to collect both the business CCB licence number and the individual home inspector certification number, then confirm both are active.
- Individual: the OCHI search returns a HIC number, a status of ACTIVE or EXPIRED, and an Associated CCB Licenses table.
- Business: the contractor search returns licence status, endorsement type, bond and liability history, and a CERTIFIED HOME INSPECTOR (OCHI) yes or no.
The failure mode nobody describes
An inspector can show ACTIVE on the certification record while the Associated CCB Licenses table is empty or lists only a business that is not active. That person is certified but not lawfully able to sell an inspection.
The wrong database
The Building Codes Division runs a separate inspector certification search. That programme certifies municipal building officials, not home inspectors. ORS 701.005(9) expressly excludes persons certified under ORS chapter 455 from the definition of home inspector. Searching there and finding nothing does not mean your inspector is uncertified.
A trap when matching an old report
A certification that lapsed for more than two years requires a fresh application and receives a new certification number. An OCHI number on a five year old report may no longer match the current record for the same person.
